In the Alexandra Gown

A GLL woman is to you…

Relaxed yet edgy. Cool and fun, yet knows exactly what she wants.

What is it you loved about your GLL gown and accessories?

I had my eye on the Alexandra before Nick had even proposed! It was always in the back of my mind as ‘the dress’ I would wear if I ever got married. Once he proposed, I made a weekend of it with my mum and bridesmaids and finally tried it on! I was so nervous because I had my heart set on it, and luckily I loved it and ordered it that same day! I was tossing up between the Gabriela and Henri veils, but just couldn’t go past the beautiful fabric of the Gabriela – it is so soft it just floats!

Describe your wedding day look…

Relaxed, natural and elegant.

How did he propose?

Nick had convinced me that he didn’t want to get married, so when he proposed I have never been more shocked! We were celebrating our 5 year anniversary with a weekend away at our favourite little beach shack in Manyana on the NSW South Coast. We arrived Friday night after work to an amazing stormy sunset. Nick set up a bottle of champagne on the deck and I busied myself taking photos of the epic sunset (to post to Instragram of course!). Nick suggested he take one of me with the sunset in the background knowing that I would immediately ask ‘show me’ to check how I looked (haha). Unbeknownst to me, he had only pretended to take the photo, and what he showed me on his phone was a picture of a beautiful ring. Then he got down on one knee and brought out the actual ring and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked I cried hysterically for about 5 minutes before even thinking to put the ring on! We then spent the weekend together by the beach, sipping champagne!

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

We wanted to make sure all our guests had an amazing time and were well looked after from the minute they arrived to celebrate with us! We had mini margarita shots circulating right after the ceremony, and a huge grazing table ready to nibble at all afternoon. We couldn’t be happier with the vibe on the day, it was such a happy, fun day, and we really felt so much love from everyone!

The funniest moment on the day was…

About 30 minutes before our ceremony it began to rain fairly heavily and we had to look for a wet weather back up. We decided on the beautiful old dining room of Wallalong House but as it turned out not all of our guests could fit inside. We had people standing outside, peering in through the windows of the dining room. I didn’t realise until I’d reached Nick during the ceremony and could see friends and family standing outside waving through the windows!

What was the most stressful part to planning?

I loved planning all the elements of our wedding. Right at the end I did start to become overwhelmed with the hundreds of last minute decisions that need to be made with a wedding. It didn’t help that it had rained all week prior to the wedding, and there were horrible black clouds and rain predicted for our entire wedding day. Our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were all outside so that made for quite a bit of stress!

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

The three months leading up to the wedding were our last few months living in Sydney, so I decided to walk home each day over the Harbour Bridge and make the most of the amazing view. It was a 5km walk uphill each day and I was surprised to find adding a walk each day made a huge difference.

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

Not that you want to think about it, but I would recommend having a wet weather back up that you are really happy with. Have a written plan for how you want it set up, because wet weather calls are usually made last minute once your hair and makeup is done and you’re meant to be relaxing. The last thing you want it is to be making styling and set up decisions when you should be sipping champagne with your bridesmaids!
