Michael & Miya
In the Inca Gown
A GLL woman is to you…
Authentic & dazzling.
How did you decide on your GLL gown and accessories?
It was love at first sight. I had spent 2 months visiting different bridal salons, reading blogs, following Pinterest… but nothing spoke to me, until I saw the Inca dressand immediately knew that it was “the one.” When I tried on the dress it fit like a glove – no alterations were needed!
Describe your wedding day look…
Natural, happy, playful.
How did he propose?
Mike proposed to me at the 2016 Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, where we first met 10 ten years earlier. Back then, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were headlining at the festival, and they were again headlining that year. He said he wanted to show me something and brought me by the river after sunset, where no one else was around, got down on one knee and sang the chorus of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song “Hard to Concentrate.” It was the most magical proposal.
What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?
The goal of our wedding was to reunite & celebrate! Our wedding was a 3-day event in Whistler where we both spent a lot of time during our childhood – but because we both grew up in different cities throughout Japan, Canada, US, Europe… we had friends attending the event from all over the world, all of them from out of town, and many of them visiting Whistler for the first time. Our wedding was not only a celebration of our love, but a symbolic gesture to say “thank you” and show our gratitude to all of our family and friends who supported our relationship over the last decade.
The funniest moment on the day was…
The speeches! Mike’s groomsmen were out of control.
What was the most stressful part to planning?
Wedding planning is known to be stressful… but Mike and I enjoyed every minute of the planning process, thanks to our wedding planner Carlee. We gave ourselves 10 months to plan and worked on the project together from start to finish.
Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…
If you focus on others rather than yourself, your wedding is bound to be magical!
