Gown & Ordering Q&As

Q: Why is my gown tighter than when I tried it on? Or why does the colour look different?

A: Our boutique samples are handled and tried on frequently, and often gently cleaned to keep them looking their best. Over time, this process can cause the fabric to soften, stretch slightly, and appear different in colour. The gown you receive, being brand new, will feel firmer and may appear slightly different in tone until it naturally relaxes with wear and care.

Q: Why can't I order my gown in a different material or colour?

A: Each Grace Loves Lace gown is intentionally designed with a specific fabric, colour, and fit to achieve the look, feel, and movement envisioned by our design team. Every element from the lace texture to the drape of the fabric is carefully considered to bring the design to life as it was created in our Australian studio.

For this reason, we don’t offer custom fabric or colour changes. However, we always value feedback and take it into account when developing future collections and variations of our most-loved styles.

Q: I’m worried a Grace Loves Lace gown will be difficult to alter – how do I ensure this is a smooth process?

A: Our gowns are thoughtfully designed with luxurious, high-quality fabrics that offer a naturally flattering and comfortable fit, meaning most brides require minimal alterations. That said, we understand that every body is unique, and some brides may wish to make small adjustments to achieve their perfect fit.

While we don’t offer in-house alterations, we’ve built strong relationships with trusted independent seamstresses who are experienced with our gowns and their unique craftsmanship. They can assist with everything from simple hems and strap adjustments to more detailed refinements.

Alterations are a normal part of the bridal journey, and we’re here to support you. To help, we’ve added an alteration skill level guide under the Finer Details section on each gown’s product page, so you can easily see what to expect for your chosen gown. You can also check out our Alterations Directory for a curated list of trusted seamstresses ready to help make your gown fit perfectly. If you need more clarification around alterations, our Stylists or Customer Experience team will be able to assist you via email at cx@graceloveslace.com.

Q: How long will I be waiting for my gown after I order from Grace Loves Lace?

A: The delivery timeframe depends on the type of order you choose:

  • Ready to Wear gown: can be dispatched from our Australian production hub within 3–5 business days (when it’s in stock and not on pre-order).
  • Made to Order Standard gown: production takes approximately 5 months.
  • Made to Order Custom gown: it generally takes 6 months, with your gown shipped about 6–8 weeks before your wedding date.

If your wedding is sooner than these timeframes, ask your Stylist or our Customer Experience team about priority fast-tracking options for Made to Order styles.

Q: How should I prepare my Grace Loves Lace gown before my wedding day

A: Prep recommendations vary between styles, but for most of our gowns, you can follow the below recommendations or refer to your gown’s care card for advice specific to your style.

To avoid damaging your gown’s delicate fabric, we recommend keeping your Grace Loves Lace gown stored safely in its box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight until a few days before your wedding. When you’re ready, you can hang your gown using the provided hanging loops, ensuring it’s placed in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.

We advise against steaming your dress instead, use a cool iron to gently smooth out any creases, placing a clean piece of fabric between the iron and your gown for protection. These simple care steps will help preserve your gown’s beautiful condition, keeping it flawless, fresh, and ready for your big day.

Q: What underwear or shapewear garments can I wear under Grace Loves Lace gowns?

A: We recommend seamless, skin-toned underwear to maintain a smooth, invisible look beneath your Grace Loves Lace gown. Depending on your dress style, you may also consider minimal or low-back shapewear for extra support. For detailed recommendations on the best undergarments for each gown style, visit our blog on what to wear under your wedding dress.

Q: How do I put on a Grace Loves Lace gown?

If your Grace Loves Lace gown doesn’t have a zipper and can’t be stepped into, the best way to put it on is by carefully slipping it over your head, with a headscarf over your head to avoid getting makeup on the gown or ruining your hair. Watch our YouTube tutorial for a step-by-step guide on how to dive headfirst into your gown with ease and without damaging the delicate fabric.

Q: How should I clean and store my Grace Loves Lace gown after my wedding?

A: At Grace Loves Lace, we recommend following our detailed care and preservation guide outlined in our Wedding Dress Preservation blog.

It includes everything you need to know about cleaning, caring for, and storing your gown after your special day including important information for gowns with darker linings, like Chai, which may require extra care to prevent colour transfer.

If you have further questions or need guidance on cleaning or storage, feel free to get in touch with our Customer Experience team at cx@graceloveslace.com.

Brand Q&As

Q: I’ve heard Grace Loves Lace gowns offer no support, is that true?

A: Not at all! You asked, and we listened. Many of our gowns now feature internal boning and corsetry made with 360-degree flexible coil boning that bends and molds to your body, providing ultimate comfort and freedom of movement. We also offer styles with built-in shapewear crafted from ultra-comfy, breathable Power Mesh. We weren’t willing to compromise on comfort for the sake of structure now you can have both!

Q: Are Grace Loves Lace gowns one-size-fits-all?

A: No – our gowns are thoughtfully designed to celebrate a majority of shapes and sizes. Grace Loves Lace gowns are available in sizes XS to 3XL, with select styles like Emma and Phoebe offered up to 5XL.

For brides whose measurements vary between sizes, our Made to Order Custom styles allow your gown to be created to your size range across the bust, waist, and hips. This ensures a comfortable, flattering fit that feels made just for you. For more information, see our sizing guide.

Q: Why do Grace Loves Lace gowns cost what they do, compared to other brands or designs with boning and structure etc?

A: At Grace Loves Lace, our gowns are priced to reflect the quality of our craftsmanship, ethical production, and luxurious materials not traditional markups or mass manufacturing. Unlike many brands, we don’t select designs from factory catalogues; every gown begins as a sketch in our Australian design studio and is brought to life by our team of designers and artisans.

Each piece undergoes a rigorous development, fit, and sampling process to ensure the perfect balance of comfort, support, and effortless style a level of care and refinement that sets us apart from many other brands. Our gowns are handmade in-house or by trusted partners abroad using premium different laces, satins, and crepes that prioritise movement and a modern fit over uncomfortable structure or boning.

You’re investing in an original, sustainably made design with the quality, creativity, and effortless comfort that Grace is known for.

Q: How is Grace Loves Lace committed to sustainability?

A: At Grace Loves Lace, sustainability is at the heart of our design process. When we discover a lace we love, we work closely with our suppliers to redevelop it using recycled materials. Across our gowns, we use fabrics that are OEKO-TEX certified (free from harmful substances), Global Recycle Standard (GRS) certified recycled materials, vegan-friendly fabrics, eco-satin, recycled polyester, Naia acetate, and recycled nylons, rayons, and spandex. We even created the first-ever ECO bridal gown made from 96% recycled and GRS-certified materials.

Beyond our fabrics, our commitment extends to third-party factory audits for our offshore tier-1 suppliers to ensure social and environmental compliance, and an upcycling program with Upparel that repurposes fabric scraps and retired samples reducing waste and giving materials a second life.

Simply put, our gowns are designed to be beautiful, ethical, and good for the planet. Discover more about our sustainable practices over on our planet page.

Q: Why should I buy a Grace Loves Lace gown when I can buy a dupe or something cheaper?

A: If you care about who makes your gown and where it comes from, choose Grace Loves Lace. If your budget doesn’t stretch to a full-price gown, explore our sale section or talk to your boutique stylist to see if there are samples on hand we can sell at a discounted price. Alternatively, you can shop second-hand on resale platforms or Facebook! Sustainable, ethical bridal style is always within reach.
